Step 7 of 12 steps to GDPR compliance in 12 posts

This is Step 7 in our series of emails designed to help you get ready for GDPR. If you have missed any in the Series and would like to catch up, please email visit 12 Steps to GDPR on our website.

The 25th of May is not very far away now and non-compliance can result in significant penalties. If you follow the practical steps in our series of emails, you should be getting into good shape but, if you need someone by your side to get you over the line, we are here to help.

You should ensure that you seek the correct levels of consent

  • You should review how you seek, record and manage consent and whether you need to make any changes.
  • You should refresh existing consents now if they don’t meet the GDPR standard. The ICO has published  guidance on consent under the GDPR – you should use its consent checklist to review your practices.
  • If you rely on individuals’ consent to process their data, make sure it will meet the GDPR standard on being specific, granular, clear, prominent, opt-in, properly documented and easily withdrawn.
  • If not, alter your consent mechanisms and seek fresh GDPR-compliant consent, or find an alternative to consent.
