Microsoft has launched an app that will allow businesses to use Skype with Android devices.

The company said business users will find that the app will help them to be more productive when they are not working at their desks. Skype for Business for Android will have a number of new features that will help users to navigate their way around it easily.

Among the features will be a new dashboard, which will provide easier access to the contact search bar, notes on forthcoming meetings and recent conversations; in addition, there will be an updated contact management section where users can find their contacts either by name, by phone number or by using their email address. Another benefit is the new authorisation features, whereby IT administrators will be able to configure multi-factor authentication for those using the app.

Users can now download the app, or those who currently use Lync 2013 may find that they are automatically upgraded to the new app dependent upon the settings on their device. Microsoft will provide regular updates to the new app, which is a policy Microsoft is planning to apply to all its mobile apps.

The product manager for Skype for Business, Praveen Maloo, said that users will soon be able to integrate the new app with Microsoft Intune, a system that offers easy app management and strong data protection.
