With the help of IoT, Australian milk producers are able to bring fresh dairy to China within 36 hours. Companies are using the capabilities of IoT for the purposes of tracking and temperature monitoring.
In other words, IoT is helping companies speed up the process and improve the quality of milk products. Telstra is just one example of companies that are doing this, and the company has also made an effort towards connecting vineyards and farms.
Looking at the numbers, the 7,000-km journey from Australia to China has been effectively reduced from needing up to 3 weeks to under 2 days, thanks to advancement of technology.
Telstra and Peloris are using a data logger device that measures temperature and location in real time. That data is then uploaded to the cloud every 15 minutes. Additionally, the device also records variables such as light emissions, air pressure, and humidity.
As the milk needs to be kept at 0 to 4 degrees Celsius, monitoring temperature becomes very important in terms of remaining compliant with health and safety regulations.
When the product arrives at the border, it’s possible to process it very quickly, since transportation and handling information is easily accessed by inspection. Supposedly, the end customer can also gain insight into some of the recorded data by scanning the barcode on the product.
Peloris has successfully delivered its two millionth litre to China without a single failure. The company is planning to apply the IoT solution to other products like meat, seafood, fruit, and vegetables to other imports across Asia.
