High School Students In Class Using Laptops

The power of the network

The network infrastructure lies at the heart of any ICT solution and is the key to a successful deployment. As ICT technology has converged, there is no longer any need to draw a distinction between voice, data and video networks – they can all be carried over the same core infrastructure. This single network makes it more important than ever to have a robust, resilient network design that is built using professional grade components providing sufficient capacity to meet peak demand.

The fixed, local area network is built using high quality switches and the latest specification cabling. Wireless connectivity is provided using high performance, secure access points. This local area network carries all voice, data and video traffic throughout the school. In the case of multiple site schools, the local area network can be extended to connect separate buildings.

Connection to external services such as the internet or dedicated education networks is provided by secure switches and routers. These block any unauthorised attempts to access the school network and also ensure that content identified as inappropriate cannot be accessed.

For members of staff who need to work remotely, secure access can be provided. The member of staff would typically have a computer, a telephone and a broadband connection installed at home. Over the broadband connection, the telephone becomes an extension to the school system allowing the staff member to make, receive and transfer calls and have access to all centralised services such as voicemail. Using Remote Desktop technology, the staff member will also have access to files, applications and emails, just as if they were in school.

Microsoft Office 365 enables members of staff to have licences on all of their devices; desktops, laptops, phones and tablets providing full access to files and documents that are hosted in the Qubic Cloud.
