The Waterside Enterprise Zone in Northampton now has superfast broadband as part of a scheme to attract new businesses.
The zone was created just four years ago and the new broadband services could offer speeds of up to 80Mbps. There are eight new roadside broadband cabinets, three of which are already in operation. More than 180 different premises will be able to access the faster services and it is thought that the new scheme will be fully operational by the end of 2015.
There are parts of the enterprise zone where the plans for faster broadband have not yet been finalised, however. Local councillor Andre Gonzalez De Savage said it is essential that the enterprise zone is equipped with superfast broadband to retain businesses and attract new growth to the area. More than 6,000 businesses in the county are set to benefit from the Superfast Northamptonshire project.
Local companies that have already taken advantage of the faster business broadband are reporting that they have been able to improve both the customer experience and productivity. Another local councillor, Tim Hadland, said that the enterprise zone is considered one of the top-performing areas in the country.
In total there are more than 50,000 premises in the county taking advantage of residential and business broadband services that offer speeds of more than 24Mbps. It is hoped that this will rise to nearly 74,000 premises by the end of 2017.
