Microsoft has decided to end all official Windows 7 and Windows 8 forum tech support. From July onwards, if you have a problem with Windows 7 or 8, Surface Pro, or Microsoft Office 2013, you’re going to have to rely on the community to provide the answers for you.

From that point on, the company officials will no longer post helpful solutions to queries regarding:

– Windows 7

– Windows 8.1

– Windows 8.1 RT

– Microsoft Office 2010

– Microsoft Office 2013

– Internet Explorer 10

– Microsoft Security Essentials

The Zune section will be locked and only available for browsing. The same can be said for the Microsoft Band section; however, users are welcome to participate in the Microsoft Band 2 topic.

The following pieces of hardware will no longer have forum tech support:

– Surface Pro

– Surface Pro 2

– Surface 2

– Surface RT

Microsoft has also decided to get rid of the Mobile devices forum topic. However, continued support will be provided in the Other Windows mobile devices topic.

According to Microsoft’s official post, the forum will still be moderated, and the users are welcome to keep on using it for the purpose of asking questions and communicating with one another.

Since the products listed are no longer enjoying mainstream support, the move hardly comes as a surprise.

Ending the community support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 means no longer offering forum support for products that are not supported anymore. However, both of these are still going to receive security updates under Microsoft’s extended support period.
