About half a year ago, the company decided to offer a free version of Microsoft Teams, a popular chat app. Spiceworks conducted a survey, and the results are in: the app is becoming the most popular chat solution out there.
In May, the app had around 200,000 users. However, by September, the increase in numbers was massive, totalling 329,000.
Spiceworks interviewed 900 businesses in Europe, and here’s what they found:
- Skype for Business is the #1 chat app right now, followed by…
- Microsoft Teams, rightfully taking the #2 spot
In 2016, the adoption rate for Microsoft Teams was 3%. Today, the adoption rate is at 21%. Slack, on the other hand, had a market share of 13% in 2016 and has grown a bit to 15% as of today.
Spiceworks believe that the rapid adoption of Microsoft Teams is probably due to it being a free add-on to Microsoft Office 365.
As for Google Hangouts, the numbers seem to be falling from 16% in 2017 to 11% in 2018. Large businesses, however, seem to fancy it somewhat, since the adoption rate has gone up from 11% in 2016 to 18% in 2018.
Facebook’s Workplace is not seeing too much success, as only 1% of organisations appear to be using it. On the flipside, Skype for Business is absolutely huge, with 44% of organisations using it, which is up from 36% two years ago.
Spiceworks believes that by 2020, Microsoft adoption rates will be twice as high as those of Slack.
