Isles of Scilly to get 5G in July

Vodafone UK has confirmed that the Isles of Scilly will be able to enjoy the commercial rollout of 5G Mobile in July.

They will be joining the following regions to be one of the first to benefit from the new 5G technology:

– Bristol

– Cornwall

– Manchester

– Glasgow

– Cardiff

– Liverpool

– London

The launch date is less than one week away on the 3rd of July. Alongside the 5G rollout on the Isles, Vodafone UK has another surprise in store for us. Namely, a two year partnership with the St Mary’s Association Football Club. Comprised of 2 teams, the Woolpack Wanderers and the Garrison Gunners, they usually hit the green fields around 20 times a season.

The crowdsourced fan-assisted referee (FAR) system is another benefit of the deal, and it’s the first of its kind. The planned launch date is later down the line this year, but the details are still unknown.

Football fans have plenty to look forward to, as Vodafone will be streaming the key league games in 5G starting in October this year.

Scott Petty, Vodafone UK CTO, noted that the 5G technology is game-changing for the Isles of Scilly. Thanks to it, the local community will gain the much-needed access improvements to online services that are of great importance. Finally, he also expressed his delight at seeing the local football club partnering up with the company, which, as he sees it, is a step towards bringing people together.
