Recently, Forrester has released a report indicating the IoT predictions for 2019. Today, we’re going to be looking at some of the highlights:
- The IoT market will see bundled service offerings
Initially, the smart home was seen as one integrated system. Nowadays, however, that vision seems to be failing. It’s quite a problem to justify consumers paying the monthly subscriptions, and the current devices and services don’t seem to be connected at all. In 2019, food companies, utilities, and insurance companies will offer subscription offerings.
- Cybercriminals will start attacking smart cities
Cities are becoming “smart” and their efficiency is gradually increasing. However, the devices and sensors are not secured, thus leaving an attack vector open for the bad guys. Rewinding back to March 2018, there was the case of a cyberattack against Atlanta, as a result of which the taxpayers had to shell out close to $17 million to cover the damages. In 2019, cyberattacks against smart cities are going to increase in frequency.
- An IoT managed services market will pop up in 2019
In 2019, a new IoT market will pop up, consisting of services to help manage, monitor, and operate IoT networks, devices, and assets. The array of smart devices is constantly expanding, and the new market will target them. Various IoT stakeholders, including the ones in the healthcare, utilities, retail and manufacturing industries, will sign multi-million dollar contracts with outsourcing providers.
