Soon, Miami’s streets will be graced by some new sets of wheels: making for an important digital transformation benchmark in the area, Ford’s self-driving cars will be making the local pizza deliveries.
In collaboration with Domino’s, the pilot program in Miami has been launched. Argo AI is the technology designated to operate these self-driving vehicles, and if the experiment proves to be successful, SUVs and vans are likely to follow in the future.
In related news, Postmates has begun a partnership with Ford as well. Together, they will be sending groceries right to your doorstep, so you’ll never have to leave the house if you don’t find grocery shopping particularly appealing.
The taxi scene in Miami is bound to encounter some digital transformation as well; Ford has already started working with Lyft, and soon, we will see self-driving vehicles roaming its busy streets, and you’ll be able to book them through Lfyt’s handy app at any time.
Wondering how Ford is going to benefit from this partnership? One possible way of compensating them would be the revenue-per-mile model, or perhaps even something advanced like in-vehicle e-commerce and streaming.
Ford also seems to be expanding the scope of the company’s business abroad. In December, for instance, they inked a deal with China’s Alibaba Group. Together, they will be offering automotive services as well as researching new technology.
