Jorge Fernandes, Vodafone UK CTO, has decided to step down and an insider from Vodafone’s business division is stepping in to fill his shoes.
Fernandes will be leaving his position on the February 1 and Scott Petty, the Vodafone Group Enterprise Technology Director, will be stepping in. Fernandes will be parting ways with the company after a three-year tenure as CTO, and he already has a new job role secured overseas which remains unspecified at this time.
Since joining Vodafone in 2002, Fernandes has been responsible for handling a wide range of tasks and has even overseen a multi-billion investment programme. During the project, Vodafone’s network reach was effectively expanded, new technologies were deployed such as Massive MIMO, and support for HD Voice was introduced.
Petty has maintained his current role in the company since 2013. His responsibility has been to lead the enterprise division’s technology as well as developing various solutions and products. He joined Vodafone in 2009, and prior to that, he worked at Dimension Data as a CTO.
Petty made a comment about being delighted to be joining Vodafone UK at this time. He is excited to play his part in the company that’s focused on artificial intelligence, 5G, and full fibre broadband. He believes these solutions will play an important role in advancing the digital economy.
According to his words, the company has a leading position in the areas of unified communications and IoT and aims to have an impact on how the businesses operate.
