An iOS device can contain precious data like work information, photos, and other types of sensitive data, so following the proper data security principles is a constant concern.
The following five data security tips should make it harder for ill-doers to get their hands on your private data:
- Use common sense
This is the most important piece of advice, as no security app can save you if you are not using your best judgment online. Did you know that social engineering attacks have a 91% success rate? This is because they target the weakest link – the human element.
- Use HTTPS websites
Use the HTTPS protocol to make sure that every piece of data exchanged between you and a website is encrypted, so no-one can intercept it.
- Use device-based security protection
A 4-digit pin is not what it used to be. Change it to a longer custom passcode for better security.
- Make backups regularly
It is easier to make device backups than it may seem, and there are multiple services that allow you to do this.
- Update your iOS device regularly
Some types of vulnerabilities can exist in the operating system for a long time before they are discovered and patched accordingly. While there is nothing you can do about this, you can at least make sure to keep your iOS device up to date and protect yourself against the known vulnerabilities. By updating regularly, you reduce the chances of becoming a hacker’s victim.
