The internet has become quite a playground for those with a never-ending thirst for knowledge. In fact, the average person is now more likely to search for information online, rather than going to a traditional library to find a relevant book. So, what are the most popular resources, what has changed. and what does the future of learning look like?

Over the last couple of years, the sheer number of online courses has grown tremendously. Everyone has probably heard of the following repositories of knowledge:

– YouTube

– Open Culture

– Coursera

– Wikipedia

– Khan Academy

The digital transformation of learning has also forced formal education institutions to adapt to the trend and start offering digital learning programs themselves.

The nature of online learning allows for instant specified searches, making it far more self-directed, enjoyable, and infinitely customized. It’s easy to see why people have massively started flocking to this style of learning. Combined with social media discussion groups, where people can find others who are studying and discussing the same thing, the experience can even become much more social.

Digital learning has become so relevant and widespread today, that we could say it’s enabling a workforce revolution. To prepare for this new style of workforce education, enterprises can do the following things:

– Enable a social foundation.

– Reduce friction in the learning process and digital tools.

– Create the seeds for participation and consumption of social learning.

Research shows that 80% of education is now informal. This is a great opportunity for many changes, but it also calls for adaptive measures.
